The CCSA Experience

Our students will excel. They will learn to read, write, compute, and think critically. The school’s educational model draws on the very best educational practices with attention to learning the foundational skills and content knowledge students need in order to be successful in the existing society. To the greatest extent possible, students will be afforded opportunities to collaboratively learn new content and skills in the context of real world problems. In order to support this kind of learning, we will make every effort to keep class sizes small with a cap of 25 students per class.

Teachers at Chester Charter School for the Arts are exceptional individuals who will continually challenge themselves and each other to do better, be better, teach better. Every teacher models for the children and each other what it is to be a life-long learner by actively engaging in on-site and/or off-site professional development. Every teacher models how to cooperate and collaborate in the quest for excellence. The teaching staff works as a unit to show how academics and the arts can flourish together in yet unimagined ways.

Character Development

We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.
::  Mary McLeod Bethune, renowned African- American educator 1875-1955

The Chester Charter School for the Arts takes the development of character very seriously. Embedded in the core philosophy of its educational program is the nurturing of character traits that will build scholars and leaders of tomorrow. Caring, cooperation, responsibility, integrity, respect of self and others – these will be fostered in everything the child does during the school day. Values and principles that the whole school community will live by include self-efficacy, a passion for life-long learning, striving for excellence, the primacy of serving others, and creating a just society. Character development will not be a separate, measurable component, but rather a philosophical pillar that lies at the heart of the school community. Our Code of Conduct will serve as the framework for our behavioral expectations. It will guide our daily interactions and will be explicitly taught through role-play and discussion.
